- Dr. Giovanni Broggini is a Senior Scientist in Molecular Plant Breeding at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETHZ) in Zurich, Switzerland. After completing his studies in chemistry and earning a doctoral degree from the Plant Pathology group at ETHZ, he worked as a researcher at ETHZ and at Agroscope, the Swiss center of excellence for agricultural research.
- His expertise includes the study of apple pathosystems and the identification and deployment of disease resistance genes. He contributed to the development of the first disease-resistant cisgenic apple lines, which were also investigated in various field trials.
- His current research focuses on gene discovery using genetic resources such as the Swiss Apple Core Collection, as well as the implementation of new genomic techniques for cultivar improvement in apple and grapevine.
